What are you going to do with your platform?
That WordPress website of yours?
What’s your vision?
You do realize you have some competition?
With everyone and their mother blogging it’s hard to distance yourself from the other primates.
Comedians, speakers, musicians. You name the profession, they’re online building a platform.
But building a WordPress platform is the painless part. WordPress is now so easy you could train a Bearded Spider Monkey to publish.
But let’s get away from poo flinging primates and talk about you.
Yes, You.
Why are you here? Why do you have a WordPress blog?
Now that you have a robust platform, what’s the plan?
You put your blood, sweat, and tears into this noble pursuit.
You spend hours writing blog posts for free.
You answer emails, dispense sage advice, and don’t exactly work banker’s hours.
Heck you may even want to change the world.
So, what’s it all for?
You’ve probably asked yourself this question while answering comments at 10:00 p.m., or trying to come up with a blog topic at 5:00 a.m.
So?
If you have grand plans and you’re enjoying the process, here’s a virtual high-five, but where are you going with that WordPress blog of yours?
Everyone is telling me that blogging is dead, yeah, yeah… so if you think so, please do yourself a favor and drop out. Or maybe you should do the following…
5 Ways to Power up Your WordPress Blog
1. Define why you are blogging.
Do you have a core reason for blogging your little heart out? If you don’t, you might be wasting your time.
Become a content marketing machine, with purpose.
2. What specific problems will you be fixing?
Here to help yourself become a better writer? Want to teach someone how to make their own cheese? Do you love WordPress so much you can’t not design the most beautiful websites on the planet? Good, good and good.
3. What are your capabilities?
Are you proudly displaying said qualifications on your site? This thing we call know-how? If not, why not?
4. What type of business or individual will benefit from all this?
And how will you find them?
The not-so-secret “secret” to making it online?… finding your people. See #3 in this blogging for business post.
5. And my favorite: What makes your blog unique?
If you haven’t started take a look at this post on positioning your business.
So, have you asked yourself these 5 questions?
Do you have big, fat, audacious goals? Or do you get so wrapped up in the day to day grind you lose sight of why you built a business blog in the first place.
So, when it comes to your WordPress site. Tweak, recalibrate, and retool. Just make sure you own it, because this is your property and it should be working hard for you.
